The Parkinson Center consists of the following units:

To provide patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders with holistic, multimodal treatment in a pleasant atmosphere, the Parkinson Center was founded in Leun-Biskirchen (Hesse) in 1995. Behind the guiding principle of "humanity and medicine" lies the endeavor to not only focus on the disease in isolation, but to consider the person in their entirety.
The Gertrudis Clinic in Biskirchen is a privately owned neurological hospital specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease and related conditions. It has 120 beds. As a recognized acute care hospital, it has contracts with all statutory health insurance providers. Therefore, both those with statutory and private insurance only require a referral from their general practitioner for inpatient admission.
The Gertrudis Private Clinic was founded in 2002 due to the high demand for beds. It can treat privately insured patients, those eligible for public assistance, and self-paying patients, and has 20 beds.
Both clinics at the Parkinson Center offer optimal care for the following conditions:
- Primary Parkinson's syndrome
- Secondary Parkinsonian syndromes
- Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP)
- Multiple system atrophy of Parkinsonian type (MSA-P)
- Multiple system atrophy of the cerebellar type (MSA-C)
- Corticobasale Degeneration (CBD)
- Lewy body disease (LBD)
- Restless-Legs-Syndrom (RLS)
- Essential tremor
- Chorea and dystonic movement disorders
State-of-the-art diagnostics and therapy: Despite the hotel-like atmosphere of our acute care clinics, we are fully equipped to provide specialized, high-performance medical care. In addition to cutting-edge diagnostic methods and drug therapies, we collaborate closely with surrounding hospitals and university clinics. Furthermore, we offer our patients comprehensive, multimodal therapy that addresses the whole person. This includes physiotherapy and physical therapy, speech therapy and swallowing therapy, occupational and creative therapy, treatment of comorbidities, escalation therapy with medication pumps, assessment for deep brain stimulation, and counseling and training for patients and their families.
The Parkinson's specialist outpatient clinic is aimed at patients with suspected or confirmed diagnoses of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal motor disorders (including dystonia and multiple system atrophy).
Patients in the early stages of the disease receive differentiated initial treatment with medication and additional therapies. For those with advanced disease, therapy optimization is carried out on an outpatient basis or, if necessary and desired, inpatient treatment is initiated.
The outpatient consultations are open to both publicly and privately insured patients. Publicly insured patients must present a referral from their treating neurologist.
